Penang Bridge

Marathon Route for PBIM

I Run Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM)
This is my 3rd run & 1st ever Half Marathon (21km) completed first time ever in my life and ever since I started Original Bootcamp @ Bandar Utama (OBC-BU).  There were appr. 20+ over participants from OBC-BU in the PBIM marathon, and majority of us are doing our maiden half marathon (21km) with very much excitements and enthusiasm.  Nevertheless, OBC training had prepared us in our staminas & endurances for marathon running.

I arrived at Penang, Malaysia on the 19-Nov-2010 (Friday) to prepare myself for the PBIM run which took place on the 21-Nov-2010 (Sunday) at 0300am for Half Marathon.  Checked in to Hotel Equatorial, Penang w/ Sarge Dann, Ody Lana, Lilian Lee and Mike (Lilian's friend); rest our body & mind in preparation for the run, carbo-loaded (more like a feast) w/ Nasi Kandar, Cendul, Asam Laksa, Tandoori Chicken w/ capati, Tosai and other local cuisines then did some shopping for clothes.

Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) half marathon starts from Queensbay Mall main road, proceed w/ d run onto Penang Bridge, run up & down the arch road then u turn 1 km infront and run the arch road once more, then proceed to the crossing down onto the island, turned right towards Sea-Gate building and U-turned back straight to Queensbay mall.  Water station was sufficient & accomodating with small 1/2 litre mineral water & 100plus isotonic drinks.  Weather was Partly cloudy with thunder storm, it started to rain after i did my u-turn on the penang bridge @ the 11th km; was soaked in rain and was chilling cold from the sea breeze as I was running on the bridge, but was kept warm by my Adidas TechFit top & pants.

My PBIM Half Marathon went smooth (w/ light right ankle cramps) as I had been training w/ OBC-BU for improved Staminas, Endurances & Stronger body core.  Gratitude & appreciation to my fellow OBC-BU trainers & buddies.  Also the un-selfish sharing & coaching by Daing Danial Fitri (AKA Sarge Dann) for his endless supports & motivations in me to achieve the impossible in me.

Marathon of HOPE! - Terry Fox Run! (07th November 2010)

Marathon of HOPE - Terry Fox Run
Date: 08-November-2010 (Sunday)
Time: 0900am
Venue: Lake Titiwangsa - Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)

About Terry Fox Run - Marathon of HOPE! (*Source Wikipedia)
The Terry Fox Run is an annual non-competitive charity event held in numerous regions around the world in commemoration of Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox, and his Marathon of Hope, and to raise money for cancer research.

The event was founded in 1981 by Isadore Sharp, who contacted Terry in-hospital by telegram and expressed his wishes to hold an annual run in Terry's name to raise funds for cancer research. The event is held every year on the second Sunday following Labour Day. Since its inception, it has raised via the 'Terry Fox Foundation' close to $500 million dollars (CAD)[1]. The run itself is informal which means that the distance often varies, usually between 5 and 15 kilometres; participation is considered to be more important than completing the set distance. There are also runs set up by schools of every level, often with shorter distances than the "official" ones.

Unlike other major fund raising events, the Terry Fox Run has no corporate sponsorship. This is in accordance with Terry Fox's original wishes of not seeking fame or fortune from his endeavour. During his cross-Canada run, he turned down every endorsement he was offered (including from major multinationals such as McDonald's), as he felt that it would detract from his goal of creating public awareness. The Terry Fox Runs have no advertisements on any race related materials (such as t-shirts, banners, etc).

I Run for Terry Fox Marathon of Hope
I ran for Terry Fox on Sunday (08-Nov-2010) alongside my band of buddies from Original BootCamp @ Bandar Utama (OBC-BU) and with other runners appro. 2,000 participants whom also join-in to "OutRun Cancer".  It was a charity run for a good caused which is open for public, you can run, walk, strolling w/ your kids and just gather around (A cheerfull family day)
At around 0745am bootcampers from OBC-BU gathered on the assembly field under the canopy and catch-up with each other and camwhoring (as usual).

It was a route of 2 rounds around the 2.5km lake, and it was congested with participants; You'll have to squeeze in between gaps to run the path.

Nevertheless, it was a fun morning

Kasih Hospice Care Society (KASIH FOUNDATION)

KASIH HOSPICE
Kasih Hospice Care Society (KHC) is a Charitable Organization / Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which seeks to bring a fresh and mindful approach to care-giving for patients facing life-endangering illnesses and to their families too. By understanding that all people, irrespective of background and creed, have similar hopes and fears, especially during the season of serious illness. KHC aims to provide a delicate balance between medical services and emotional & spiritual support to help patients and their families cope; to let them know that they are not walking the path alone; to foster their ability to cherish what they still have and pacify their fears. Our team of doctors, nurses and trained volunteers may be modest in number and resources but sincere in our efforts and aspirations.

In addition to serving patients, KHC partakes in community education by hosting workshops on how to care for those with advanced diseases, bereavement care, how to live meaningfully and die well, learning from medical experts on the psychology of a person facing death, venturing into philosophical issues of how to turn adversity into an advantage, with compassion for all beings as the driving force behind this community education program.

KASIH HOSPICE HISTORY
KASIH HOSPICE CARE SOCIETY,KUALA LUMPUR & SELANGOR(KHC) first launched its services in 1997 with its trained volunteers visiting patients in hospitals on a regular basis to give them emotional and spiritual support. It later established its medical team in 2005 tofill a perceived service gap for those people wishing to remain at home whilst living with a life threatening illness. Most of the people who access our service have advanced cancers but there are some who suffer from serious non cancer illness such as AIDS, Motor Neurone Disease, End-stage organ failure, etc.

Palliative care is active holistic ‘whole person care’ with particular focus on pain and symptom management whilst also looking into the psychosocial and spiritual needs of the patient. Our team of committed doctors, nurses and volunteers give skilful and dedicated care to those who are very ill, irrespective of race, religion, age or financial status.

We are a non-governmental organisation with a not-for-profit philosophy and our services are free of charge. We are recognised as a service provider by the public and private hospitals in Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding region. We assist people to maintain control over their lives and provide a home visitation service for those who require it. We support people of all belief systems on a non-denominational and non-discriminatory basis.

Helping others wherever one can, according to their needs, is the true expression of compassion. KHC aims to offer this gift of friendship, companionship, emotional and spiritual support to those individuals and their families who are facing life-threatening illness in a holistic manner.

KHC views palliative care as a social responsibility as well. The organisation provides training programs for volunteers and the public which aim at cultivating wisdom and compassion through service whilst also equipping them with knowledge about End of Life care.
